Free Speech Coalitions: “Williams Case Analysis
Canoga Park, CA –Today, the Free Speech Coalition released an analysis of the May 19th opinion, issued by the United States Supreme Court, in United States v. Michael Williams, a case involving the government’s efforts to suppress child pornography. FSC Board Member and First Amendment Lawyers Association National Chairperson, Reed Lee, authored the document that FSC distributed to its members Tuesday, May 20th.
‘I asked Reed to write an analysis of the opinion for our members because it is difficult for people without law degrees to decipher court opinions,’ said Diane Duke FSC Executive Director. ‘Our responsibility, as the industry’s trade association, is to provide information that our members need to make sound business decisions.’
FSC, along with the First Amendment Lawyers Association, filed a friend of the Court brief in the case addressing the problematic interpretations. Both the majority opinion and the dissent in Monday’s case cited the FSC/FALA friend of the court brief.
‘I would like to thank Reed for his time and expertise in developing this analysis,‘ Duke stated. ‘He is an asset to our Board and our industry.’
